If your student misses a day of school, you must notify the front office with the reason for the absence. Absences are only excused for the following reasons:
- Illness or injury
- Medical appointments, including dental and orthodontist
- Bereavement for immiediate family members
- Religious reasons
All other absences are not considered excused. it is our hope that students not be removed from school for any other reasons unless absolutely neccessary and unavoidable. We encourage families to plan ahead and take vacations during scheduled breaks during the school year.
If a student has 3 or more unexcused absences, a notification of truacny may be issued. Please read see the truancy section for more information.

Please have your student arrive to school with enough time to be ready to begin class at the second bell (8:30 am). Students who arrive after the second bell are considered tardy. More than 3 instances of tardiness can lead to a notification of truacy. Please see more in the truancy section.

Truancy Policy
Parents are required to make sure that their student arrives on time and are in school every day. Consistently late or absent students create disruption in the classroom, and the student can fall behind.
A student is considered truant when 3 or more unexcused absences and/or tardies are accrued. When this occurs, a notification of truancy letter will be issued, and a meeting callled with adminsitration to help create a plan to mitigate the circumstances that are leading to truancy. If truancy continues, another notice and meeting will be called. If truancy continues and the district has exhausted all avenues of assistance, the student and family will be referred to the School Attendance Referral Board (SARB) and possibly the Sonoma County District Attorney's Office.

Short term independent study can be arranged for students who will be missing up to 15 days of school. We ask that you notify your child's teacher no later than 2 weeks prior to the child's absence so that the appropriate contracts can be signed and lessons can be gathered and prepared. You must fill out an independent study contract with the office. Please note that short term IS is only available for 15 days total, per student, per school year. The 15 days is cumulative.
If your student is travelling out of the state or country and needs to quarantine upon their return, the Independent Study can include the quarantine time up to 15 days total, cumulative per year.
Quarantine due to Covid exposure or illness does not qualify for short term independent study, however, arrangements may be made with your child's teacher for work to complete at home.
If you are interested in long term Independent Study, please contact Pathways Charter School.
